Judging Process

A Rigorous, Independent, Merit-Based Evaluation

Every World GM Award is earned, never bought or voted for. Discover exactly how our independent expert jury assesses each nomination — fairly, transparently and on merit alone.

Integrity at the Core

Recognition That Means Something

An award is only as valuable as the process behind it. At the World GM Awards, we believe recognition must be earned through demonstrable leadership and measurable results — not popularity, marketing budgets or online campaigns. That conviction shapes every element of our judging process.

From the moment a nomination is submitted to the night a winner is announced on stage, each candidate passes through a structured, multi-stage evaluation conducted by an independent jury of seasoned hospitality, tourism and aviation professionals. There is no public voting, no pay-to-win mechanism and no shortcut. The only path to a World GM Award is to lead exceptionally and to let that leadership stand up to expert scrutiny.

This page explains our process in full: the five stages every nomination moves through, the ten evaluation areas our jury scores, the safeguards that protect fairness and independence, and the answers to the questions nominees most often ask. Understanding it will help you build a stronger nomination — and trust that, whatever the outcome, every decision was reached on merit.

The Process

Five Stages From Nomination to Recognition

Our transparent process ensures every winner genuinely represents the highest standard of leadership in their category.

01

Submission

The journey begins with a nomination. Candidates may be nominated by themselves, colleagues, employers or peers. Each submission captures the leader's role, responsibilities, achievements and supporting evidence — the foundation on which the entire evaluation is built.

02

Eligibility Screening

Our awards team reviews every nomination to confirm the candidate qualifies for the chosen category, that the information is complete and that the entry meets our eligibility standards. Nominations that need clarification are followed up before they proceed.

03

Independent Assessment

Qualified nominations are passed to our independent panel of hospitality, tourism and aviation experts, who review each entry in detail against the ten defined evaluation areas, free from any commercial or external influence.

04

Jury Evaluation & Scoring

Shortlisted leaders are scored systematically across all ten criteria. Jurors deliberate, compare evidence and reach a consensus, ensuring decisions reflect collective expert judgement rather than any single opinion.

05

Winners Announced

Winners are revealed at the prestigious gala ceremony and receive the World GM Awards trophy, plaque, medal, certificate and digital badge — a globally respected mark of leadership excellence.

Merit-based, jury-led evaluation. No public voting. Every nomination is assessed on its own merits by our independent expert jury through fair, independent assessment — never by popularity or online campaigns.

Stages One & Two

Submission & Eligibility Screening

A great evaluation starts with a great nomination. When you submit, you tell the story of a leader's impact: the scope of their role, the challenges they faced, the decisions they made and — crucially — the measurable results they delivered. The most compelling nominations move beyond adjectives to evidence: occupancy and revenue growth, guest satisfaction scores, employee engagement and retention figures, new initiatives launched and recognition already earned.

Once submitted, every entry undergoes eligibility screening. Our awards team confirms the nominee fits the selected category, that the entry is complete, and that it meets our standards for consideration. This step protects the integrity of each category by ensuring leaders are compared only against genuinely comparable peers. Where details are missing or a different category would be a better fit, we reach out before the nomination advances.

Stages Three & Four

Independent Assessment, Jury Evaluation & Scoring

At the heart of the World GM Awards is an independent jury drawn from across hospitality, tourism and aviation — former General Managers, operators, consultants and specialists who understand first-hand what exceptional leadership looks like. They assess each nomination free from commercial pressure or external influence.

During assessment, jurors examine the evidence behind each claim, looking for substance, consistency and genuine impact. Shortlisted nominations then move to structured scoring, where every candidate is rated across the ten evaluation areas using a consistent framework. Jurors deliberate, weigh competing strengths and reach a consensus, so that each result reflects collective expert judgement rather than any single perspective.

Confidentiality, fairness and independence are protected throughout. The outcome is recognition you can trust — and that owners, boards, employers and peers can trust on your behalf.

Fairness & Transparency

Safeguards That Protect Every Decision

Independence is non-negotiable. Jurors assess nominations against published criteria and are required to declare and step away from any candidate where a conflict of interest could arise. Scoring follows a consistent framework so that every nominee is measured on the same terms, and final decisions are reached by consensus rather than by any individual juror acting alone.

We also draw a clear line between recognition and commerce. Nomination fees and winner packages — details of which appear only on our fee page — never influence the outcome of an evaluation. Paying a fee secures consideration and, for winners, the physical recognition materials; it does not buy an award. This separation is fundamental to why a World GM Award carries genuine credibility.

Finally, we never use public voting. Online voting rewards reach and resources rather than leadership, and it can be gamed. By relying solely on expert, evidence-based evaluation, we ensure that the leaders we celebrate truly are among the best in their field — wherever they work and whatever the size of their following.
